(The game we all have been waiting for, wait; NO WOLVERINE?)
As many people know, the fourth installment in the
Marvel vs Capcom series, labeled MvC: Infinite; is just about to release in
quite some time and thus, the full roster has been revealed not long ago, but
there is one big bugging detail, which one is it? The X-Men (And the Fantastic
4) were all removed completely from the game and everyone is just asking… Why?
(I always questioned why Sentinel is in the MvC series)
After so many fans wondering about this exact
question, the developers of the game have finally decided to give an answer via
interview in gamespot, and to quote:
“We talked with Marvel very closely about their future
roadmap, about what's gonna be happening. Your modern Marvel fan, maybe they
don't even remember some of the X-Men characters, but they
know some of the Guardians characters or Black Panther. You know what I mean?
Captain Marvel may seem like a strange pick, but she's fantastic. She fits the
gameplay. She fits the story, and they're gonna be really pushing her as a
strong female lead all the way up into the movie. We're trying to take
everything into account and choose the best characters.”
Thus, now we know that the X-men were cut out for how
they lack the popularity needed to at least appear in the game… Wait, what? We
are talking about Marvel vs Capcom here, the game that had Anakaris, Firebrand,
M.O.D.O.K and even created its own original characters; this game has been
well-known for how it collects both known and unknown all-starts from both
sides, Marvel and Capcom.
An while yes, many people will argue that MvC:
Infinite only presents popular characters like Zero or Rocket Raccoon, it is
known that characters such as Sir Arthur, Strider Hiryu or Spencer are not
famous among the not-fans demographic, then which is the real reason?
(Good old Huge, we will always remember you)
As the image says, yes; the most likely responsible
for this has to be Disney, but not because of hate towards the franchise but
rather; because of how the Marvel cinematic universe is by now, one of their
biggest earnings in the business. Fox currently owns the cinematic rights of
the X-Men and Fantastic 4, which is why Marvel cannot create any movie based on
those characters, and thanks to that they will definitively not add characters
that promote other cinematic studios to their own game that is all about
promoting themselves to the gaming community alongside Capcom fighters.
But was this a good idea after all?
(Does anybody that is not a capcom fan remembers him?)
Copyright wise, yes; definitively, this helps Marvel
keep attention towards the characters that they own since that helps them in
the marketing area, but for fans of the series, this is just unbelievable, many
love Dr.Doom, Magneto, Wolverine, Super-Skrull, Deadpool, Cable; etc… Yet, none
will be able to appear, and while yes; the developers took this into account
and made some characters with similar abilities from characters like Magneto so
that those unique powers will not be lost forever, it is still not the same for
all players, it kind of hurts the image that MvC had in both, the gaming
community and the competitive fighting games community.
This is really sad, since the whole Marvel vs Capcom saga started thanks to the crossover "Street Fighter vs X-Men", and now they are naught but a mere memory for the developers; copyright is surely a monster but also a hero in other cases...
Either way, hate the game or love it; most will agree
that removing X-Men and Fantastic 4 characters was a low move from the company,
but at least; they gave us Ultron, Sigma and Jedah.
(This is the best thing to ever happen to this game)
